Some traditions need no explanation. All it takes is the sound of a Valencian dolçaina, the rhythm of a tabal and the first steps of the dancers filling the streets.
At the 21st Fira Gata al Carrer, tradition will also take centre stage with a performance by Grup de Danses La Llata de Gata, bringing part of the town’s cultural heritage into the streets.
Traditional Valencian dances are much more than a sequence of steps. They are a way of telling stories, keeping memories alive and passing from one generation to the next a way of understanding music, celebrations and community life.
And two instruments are an essential part of this traditional soundscape: the dolçaina and tabal. The dolçaina, with its distinctive high-pitched sound, carries the melodies, while the tabal provides the rhythm that accompanies the dancers and gives energy to every movement.
In Gata, this music is part of the identity of local celebrations and streets. That is why seeing traditional dances during the Fira is also a way of remembering where we come from and sharing that heritage with everyone who visits.
Throughout the three days of the Fira, alongside local commerce, gastronomy, crafts, music and activities, there will also be a place for Gata’s roots and traditions.
Because an event that aims to showcase everything Gata has to offer could not leave its traditional dances behind.
Tradition is taking to the streets. And in Gata, it dances to the rhythm of the dolçaina and tabal.
