There is a part of the Fira Gata al Carrer that cannot always be bought. Sometimes it is there to be seen, touched, learned about and, above all, discovered.

Throughout the three days of the 21st Fira Gata al Carrer, visitors will be able to explore traditional crafts and demonstrations that are part of Gata’s cultural memory.

At Carrer Signes, there will be an exhibition of traditional chair weaving, showcasing a craft that was once part of everyday life and requires skill, patience and precision.

In the same area, visitors will also be able to see an exhibition of traditional handmade Gata bedspreads. These handcrafted textile pieces are part of the town’s cultural and domestic heritage. They are much more than decorative objects: each one represents time, manual work and knowledge passed down from one generation to another.

Traditional craftsmanship will also be represented through natural plant fibres. At Carrer Dr. Gómez Ferrer, visitors will be able to discover the traditional making of handmade reed panels, showing a process based on natural materials and knowledge that still has a place in Gata today.

The Fira programme also includes demonstrations of other traditional techniques, including llata, macramé, openwork, embroidery, bobbin lace, Venetian needlework, frivolité and crochet.

These crafts speak of patience and skilled hands. Of learning by watching and learning by doing.

Because craftsmanship is not only about the finished object you find in a shop. It is also about the process, the knowledge and the people who keep traditional skills alive.

And for three days, all of this will be brought out into the streets.

In Gata, tradition is not simply preserved. It is shared, displayed and kept alive.
